Kingston Transportation

Kingston is a city in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). The city is located midway between Toronto and Montreal. The Thousand Islands tourist region is nearby to the east. Kingston is nicknamed the “Limestone City” because of the many heritage buildings constructed using local limestone. Kingston can be accessed from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal via train, Megabus, air flight, and Greyhound. It can also be reached by shuttle from Watertown and Syracuse.

Travel from Toronto

By air

You can fly from Toronto Pearson Airport to Kingston Airport (YGK), also known as Norman Rogers Airport, has two runways and a fully-accessible terminal. Kingston Airport is serviced by Air Canada with six flights a day between Kingston and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Travel from the Kingston Airport to Queen’s or downtown Kingston will require a taxi.

By train

  • By train (from Pearson airport): You can take the Union Pearson (UP) Express train to downtown Toronto. The line ends at Union Station in downtown Toronto where you’ll need to follow signs to the Via Rail trains. See below the instructions on how to take the train from downtown Toronto to Kingston.
  • By train (from Billy Bishop airport):   You can either walk or take a free ferry ride to get to the mainland terminal, where you can take a free shuttle to Toronto Union station. See the instructions on how to take the train from Toronto Union Station to Kingston.
  • By train (from downtown Toronto): From Union Station you can take a Via Rail train to Kingston train station. You can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus from the Kingston train station to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.

By bus

  • By bus (from Pearson airport):   Each day there are three bus trips between Toronto Pearson Airport and Queen’s University (in front of Goodes Hall).  You can purchase the ticket online at Megabus. The schedules are as follows.
  • By bus (from Billy Bishop airport): From Billy Bishop airport (on Toronto Island) you can either walk or take a free ferry ride to get to the mainland terminal. From there are many public transit options to reach the Toronto megabus terminal. See below for instructions on how to take the bus from Toronto megabus terminal to Kingston.
  • By bus (from downtown Toronto): From the Toronto megabus terminal you can take a bus operated by Megabus to Kingston. From the Kingston bus terminal, you can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus to Queen’s and downtown Kingston. The schedules can be found at https://ca.megabus.com
  • By car: Toronto is about 3 hours away from Kingston by car.

Travel from Montreal

  • By train (from Trudeau airport): you can take a free shuttle from Trudeau airport to Dorval Train Station where you can take a Via Rail train to Kingston. You can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit busfrom Kingston train station to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.
  • By train (from downtown Montreal):  you can take a Via Rail train from Montreal Train Station to Kingston. You can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus from the train station to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.
  • By bus (from downtown Montreal): You can take a bus operated by Megabus from 997 St-Antoine Ouest (Metro Bonaventure) to Kingston Bus Terminal. From there you can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.
  • By car: Montreal is about 3 hours away from Kingston by car.

Travel from Ottawa

  • By train/bus (from Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier airport): You can take a 20-minute taxi ride or OC Transpo buses from the airport to downtown Ottawa. See below for instructions on how to take a train or bus from downtown Ottawa to Kingston.
  • By train (from downtown Ottawa): You can take a Via Rail train from Ottawa Train Station to Kingston. You can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus from the train station to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.
  • By bus (from downtown Ottawa): From the Ottawa Central Station you can take a bus operated by Greyhound Canada to Kingston. From the Kingston Bus Terminal you can take a taxi or a Kingston Transit bus to Queen’s and downtown Kingston.
  • By car: Ottawa is about 2 hours away from Kingston by car.

Travel from Syracuse or Watertown

  • By shuttle: Shuttle Kingston offers a shuttle service that operates to and from the Kingston and Syracuse Airports and Amtrak. It’s an on-demand service with a schedule twice a day.   • By car: Syracuse is about 2 hours away and Watertown is about 1.5 hours away from Kingston by car. Rental cars are available at both airports.
